Kid's fishing again
Children are already looking forward to the 1991 monthly 'fish-out' days at the Tongariro National Trout Centre near Turangi which begin in May according to DOC staff. Fish-out days began in 1983 and have been popular with young anglers ever since. "Its an opportunity for youngsters to be taught how to fly cast and have a guaranteed rainbow trout at the end of their line," said officer Lianne Campbell. The fishing starts at 9am and generally finishes around 3pm. angling clubs, together with staff from DoC, instruct the children on fly casting. Children must be aged between 6 and 14 and a special children's licence fee is charged. Once caught, the fish are weighted and measured. The children are issued with a certific ate to commemorate their catch. "The fish-out is an enjoyable outing or all the family. Barbecue food, hot drinks and soup are sold with
profits going to the future development of the trout centre. Picnic facilities are on site and the more serious angler can cast a line in the adjacent Tongariro River," said Miss Campbell. The Tongariro National Trout Centre is situated just south of Turangi on State Highway one. 1991 fishing days are 12.05.91, 16.06.91, 14.07.91, 25.08.91, 22.09.91
