Easter hunt results

The Easter Hunt drew double the number of entries over last year's event, with 64 threeman teams taking part. More than 300 spectators turned out to watch the weigh-in of the Winstones International Easter Hunt at the Ohakune Hotel on Easter Monday. "It was a great success, the biggest hunt in the area. There is sure to be another next year," said spokesman Rowan Eves. For keen deer stalkers there was a stag carrying competition which entertained the crowd. Weighed in were 24 pigs, 15 deer including seven stags and 18 trout as well as the numerous possums, rabbits and eels caught by the children. Winners of the Winstone Intemational Trophy for the 'Big Three', with a combined weight of 175kg for a pig, deer and trout, was the team of Robert Bowsher, Giles Stanford and Pierre Todd. Six teams weighed in for the Big Three other teams weights ; B Phillips 169kg, iRaharuhi 161kg, D Parkes 154kg, J Barrett

139kg, and B Hansen 133kg. Results: Biggest boar lst Chris Bowls 113kg, 2nd B Hansen 91kg , 3rd Tom Spry 78kg. Biggest tusks Chris Bowls. Heaviest sow lst R Bowsher 66kg, 2nd S Browning 58kg, 3rd J Barrett 45kg Biggest stag lst Steve Tapa 150kg+ (the weighing scales took a maximum of 150kg and Steve's stag tipped right off the scales), 2nd Des McFadyen 143kg, 3rd Craig Ryland 134kg. Best Head (Douglas Points) Des McFadyen. Fastest in stag carrying J Barrett. Trout lst Foti Ioannidis 3.65kg, 2nd Giles Stanford 3.2kg, 3rd Giles Stanford 2.15kg. Best Condition factor Giles Stanford. Oldest Hunter John Cunningham. For the children the 'Big Three' with eel, rabbit and possum was won by Jason Bright with a total weight of 11kg.
