This was a drum of shielded power cable which proved too heavy for the helicopter which was lifting it. The mishap occurred when the cable was being run out as part of the electrification link for the Turoa skifield. The pilot experienced problems with the hydraulic brake system on the drum and had to ditch the 3.5 tonne, half--kilometres of cable from an estimated 300 metres above the ground.
