North-south road rate to be discussed

The council is to discuss charging roading costs to the areas of the Ruapehu District concerned rather than through the general rate, at this Friday's meeting. The discussion will follow a notice of motion by the deputy mayor Weston Kirton. Mr Kirton has called for two separate roading rates, based on a Waimarino- Waiouru area and a northern Taumarunui borough and

-ounty area, with a levy similar to the rating techniques employed for water and sewerage rates. Other items to be discussed will include the Raetihi scheme change to allow the establishment of a meat processing plant; the closure of Kokako Road at Ruatiti; temporary road closure for a car rally; the review of the election and constitution of communities; the council's pensioner housing policy; the council' scemetery charging policy; rates and rate arrears collection.
