Hereford club visits
Members of the Hawke's Bay Hereford Club visited Pat O'Neil's Okahu Hereford Stud on Sunday morning 10 March, looking at Mr O'Neil's bulls, heifers and breeding cows. The 23 members of the visiting Club stopped at Mangaohane Station on the Napier Taupo road to look at their Herefords. On Sat-
urday after visiting the Okahu Stud the group went on to Gordon Collier's Titoki Point Gardens at Rangiwae and then home through the Turakina Valley. "The cattle were in excellent condition and the hospitality great " said Phillip Barnett. Mr O'Neil has grown up with Herefords as his father bred Herefords and
Mr O'Neil remembers being given a heifer calf for his fourth birthday present as his parents had nothing else to give him. Mr O'Neil has farmed Herefords himself for 47 years. The next major event for Mr O'Neil is his annual bull sale on May 27 when he hopes to have between 25-30 bulls for sale.
