Phone wire theft concerns police

Someone is cutting copper wire from telephone lines on Whangaehu Valley Road which police say could lead to disaster for some residents there. Without telephone contact, following the removal of the wire, there is no way the isolated residents of the valley can contact emergency services if need be, said police. On three occasions the police have found lengths of the wire cut from 3-4 spans. What has police baffled is the fact that the total cable taken would barely amount to $60 worth, while the task of removing the wire would be quite difficult.
