Raetihi reservoir road to be replaced

A new access road to the Raetihi Water Reservoir is to be built, pending acceptance by the council of the Waimarino Community Board's recommendation. The board heard at their last meeting that the present verbal agreement with the owner of the land on ■ which the present access road exists had ceased. The cost of the road would be $20,000, which board member Winstone Oliver thought was too much, but area manager Don Sattler said they wanted to do a good job first time and not have to worry about fixing up an inferior track at later stages. He said it was necessary to have all weather access to the tank, for non-four wheel drive vehicles. Mayor Garrick Workman said he thought the costs should be put against the Raetihi water supply account, so that only Raetihi people pay for it. He said it would work out to about $32-$35 per rateable assessment.
