Visitor heaps praise on Ruatiti work

• I spent three days in the delightful Ruatiti Reserve from 11-14 February accommodated in our Camper Van. For me it was a nostalgic return to the region where I first attended Ruatiti Schoolas a five year-old in 1930. Things have not changed a great deal in the intervening sixty years. It is still a wonderful area. Actually, I was a 12 year old when I finally left the district, having also attended the Oruatoha and Makakahi Road Schools as weli. More importantly, I

would commend those responsible for making the Reserve what it is today. Toilet facilities are adequate, and the new 'flush block' is a beauty; water taps, rubbish bins, picnic tables and barbeque sites, all make a stay an attractive proposition. The Reserve is clean and free from litter. No doubt Margie Olds is doing a good job. The two sites with fenced enclosures containing plantings of native flora are admirable adjuncts to the property.

Someone must have a worthy spirit of conservation. I noted too the gate posts and galvanised iron gates were a 1990 Rotary project. A fitting project indeed. I have nothing but admiration for all the groups in the community who have banded together to make this one of the country's first class camping/picnic reserves.

May the Manganui A-te-Ao continue to flow nearby unimpeded by man's intervention with any hair-brained schemes to harness the river for power supply. Finally, the RaetihiOhakune Rotary Club is to be commended for taking such an interest in the Ruatiti Reserve and doing so much for campers and picnickers, to make their visit en-

joyalbe. Please inform their President for me. May everyone keep up the good work; I am inspired to return again.
