Microwaves kill giardia
If you've got a microwave oven there is a quick and easy way to sterilise your drinking water. The Bulletin has leamed that three seconds in a microwave oven is enough to kill germs and the like in water, including giardia. Such a short time hardly alters the temperature of the water, so can be used as an instant drinking water treatment.
