A Pipiriki field centre permanent staff member with two 'Restart' Labour Department workers made up one team and a similar group from Taumarunui was the second. The main weeds under attack are budlea and willow which has caused problems when cut down in that the discarded material easily takes root further downstream So staff have been employing a method of drilling the trees' trunks with portable hand-drills and filling the holes with Roundup poison using drenching guns and back-packs. Pipiriki field centre manager Dennis McDonnell said the method is so far working well.
