Rates clash fixed

Ruapehu District property owners will not have to pay rates in June then again in July, as was previously decided by the council. The date clash recently became evident and the council decided to shift the 1991-92 collection dates to September, January and May to avoid the problem. The council is offering discounts for early payment which general manager Cliff Houston said would be financially beneficial to both the council and ratepayers. He said the discount was tax free while interest earned on the same money invested would attract tax and the early payment would help the council with its cash flow.
