Wanganui extension study

Whanganui National Park may be extended by 82,000 hectares if investigations being carried out at present show the land is suitable. The land in question covers conservation land in the former Waitotara State Forest, Aotuhia, Matemateaonga

Range and Retaruke, including areas of the King Country and Taranaki. The land must fit national park criteria which includes: scenery of distinctive quality, unique or scientifically important ecological systems, or beautiful, unique or scientifically

important natural features. It must be in the national interest for preservation of the natural features.
