Ohakune garden club show

The Ohakune Garden Club held another successful show on Sunday 10 February with 277 entries in its Dahlia Show. The high number of entries was a surprise after the wet winter followed by the months of wind, with a few late frosts thrown in, according to organisers. The Judges, Mac and Cora McConnachie, and the Guest Speaker Gordon Collier, were impressed with the quality and colour of the blooms. An exhibition of art, with a floral theme, enhanced the decor of the Lions Den. The club extends its gratitude to the pupils of Ohakune Primary School for this work. Elwyn Costello's floral display

in the foyer also was impressive. Bill Te Karu won both cups- for the champion bloom and the points prize. Second was Ellen Gould, followed by third-equal Merrrilyn George and Bev Kerr.
