Ratepayers group membership grows
Membership applications for the Waimarino Ratepayers Association has grown steadily in the rural areas and in Raetihi, Association chairman Ron Frew said last week. He said they have well over 100 paid-up members plus a lot of verbal promises for membership. He said the Association was gearing up for a membership drive in some areas, especially Ohakune. Mr Frew said there had been few Ohakune people join the group but that there had not been much personal contact in the town by Association executive members. "We've basically been in recess through the summer months and we're planning a house-to-house membership campaign," said Mr Frew. He said members had been approaching individual councillors to discuss where they see the development of the Ruapehu District Council if it fails to deliver the promised economies and service improvements. A meeting has been arranged with Warren Cooper, the minister of local government., Mr Frew said many people were very upset with the council's recent Uniform Annual General Charge mistakes with regard to contiguous properties. He said they were angry that they had to go through the process of establishing that their properties weren't subject to extra UAGCs.
