Ruapehu College pupil wins scholarship

Winstone Pulp International's 1991 scholarship winner is Mark Vincent, who is to start a Bachelor of Engineering degree at Auckland University this year. Awarding the scholarship suits both parties especially well, as Winstones looks for young people studying in fields related to the pulp mill's operations, and Mark's degree requires that he gain some practical experience during the four year course of study. Mill manager Dave Anderson said it was the first time an engineering student had been awarded

the scholarship and that one other of the 15 applicants was studying engineering. The scholarship is for $1000 per year which will help pay most of Mark's fees, but more importantly he has paid work at the mill through his holidays from university. Ex-Ruapehu College pupil Mark said winning the scholarship was particularly good because it meant he would have reason to come home in holidays and take a break from the city life, though he said he was also looking forward to time in "the big smoke".
