Horopito house destroyed

A Horopito house was completely gutted by fire yesterday afterrj.oon, 12 Raetihi volunteer firemen attended the fire in two appliances and used pumprng equipment to draw water from a nearby stream to fight the blaze, which fire chief Alec Weir described as one of the worst he had attended in his 30 plus year career. A male occupant of the house had just left the dwelling when he heard his wife call, and by the time he got back to the building it was ablaze, said Mr Weir. No one was injured in the fire. He said the large, old, well maintained house was most probably a total loss and all that was in it. The cause of the fire was not known.
