Oral history directory

Currently New Zealanders of all races are enthusiastically gathering records which will enlighten future generations about the history of their country. Because of this there is a rapidly growing interest in the tape recording of oral history in New Zealand. Oral history is a sound record of language, eye witness accounts and insights into society and its changing values and attitudes. It also gives a voice to those previously denied a chance to participate in the recording of history. It is believed there is a considerable volume of material recorded on tape existing in both private and public collections throughout New Zealand. For this reason the national Oral His-

tory Association of New Zealand (NOHANZ) in conjunction with the national Library of New Zealand (Te Puna Matauranga O Aotearoa) is endeavouring to establish a national directory of oral history readings. If your readers have tapes and would like further information about Directory or NOHANZ they are invited to write to The Secretary, P.O. Box 3819, Wellington.
