Rates philosophy on the council meeting agenda
The first meeting for 1991 of the Ruapehu District Council is to be held this Friday in Taumarunui and budgeting and setting of rates philosophy is early on the agenda. The council general manager Cliff Houston has presented a report, through the agenda, outlining the council's position and points for consideration if the council wants to achieve a nil general rate increase, which he said was a question that should be addressed. Under a sub heading of "rating philosophy" he outlines some of the issues and outcomes of the council's present rating philosophy and some suggestions for alleviating the current problems. One suggestion is to have separate, northern and southern roading rates with funds spend directly where they are gathered. He also discusses Land versus Capital Value Rating. The setting up of a Local Authority Trading Enterprise for the Ruapehu District and Competitive Pricing Procedures is on the meeting's agenda, with the deadline for these changes being 1 July. The Ohakune water supply is to be discussed with recommendations to call for tenders for both UV and chlorination made. District planning schemes are up for discussion including the Ohakune and Raetihi changes. A Waiouru bus stop siting is to be decided, among the rest of the 28 agenda items.
