Work starts on snowmaking system

Approvals for Whakapapa snowmaking systems installation have been obtained from The Department of Conservation and the Manawatu Wanganui Regional Council and Ruapehu Alpine Lifts have started the job of installing the equipment. Snowmaking will mean the Happy Valley ski area should have snow from the field's season start right through to the end of September. Water for snowmaking is to be pumped from a spring in the Waipuna Valley 2km downstream from the beginner's area. RAL staff will install the $600,000 system which was designed by Snowmakers Incorporated who designed the systems for the Sarajevo and the Calgary Olympic Games.
