Ohakune pool heating fund up and running

A group of people keen to help local children learn to swim have passed the hat around and raised enough money to heat the Ohakune Pool through the month of February. The pool has a heating unit but the council does not have the money to pay for running it, so the small group, who wish to remain anonymous, decided to see if local people were interested in helping pay for it. "I was overwhelmed with the response - 1 thought it would take weeks to gather the money needed but it only took a couple of hours," said one of the group. Over $600 has been raised, which exceeds the estimated cost of heating the pool for the month. Contributors to the fund were: Skiers' Inn, Ohakune Tyres and Energy Centre, Ohakune Hotel, Country Takeaways, Benchmark, Ohakune New World, Trustbank, BNZ, Berry's Bookshop, Buck's Drapery, Maungarongo Marae, Karioi Grain Go, June Bates and Elaine Goldfinch. If anyone else wishes to contribute to the fund they can leave donations at the Bulletin office, 1 Rata St.
