Welfare group meets
Homebuilders Wanganui held a public meeting in Raetihi last week as a liaison exercise with the people they are likely to deal with. Homebuilders Wanganui pakeha coordinator May Beaumont and Maori coordinator Heather Ranginui spoke to those present, introducing themselves and Homebuilders, discussing the two part-time positions that will be available in this area, discussing child welfare and the specific problems facing rural families. Representatives from the Wanganui Trust, Social Welfare Department, Waimarino Community Advice Service, Standby and interested individuals were present at the meeting. Heather Ranginui, who was appointed last week, comes from Ranana and is of Ngati Ruaka descent, she has experience in community work with children and the elderly and is a trained nurse. The family support service she will co-ordinate is expected to start in March next year. "I am pleased to join the Homebuilders team," said Heather. "I believe that the organisation is here to help the people and if we do that then we will achieve our goal." She said she was very interested in people care in the community and in particular the care of the iwi.
