Lions celebrate 25 years service
A quarter century of 'Lionism' in the Waimarino was celebrated in style by 120 Ruapehu Lions, their families, and special guests at the weekend. A guest speaker at Saturdays function Past International Lloyd Morgan, conveyed a strong message to all, asking that the future of Lions and 'Lionism' be safeguarded. "Think about the future. Don't let Lions be destroyed due to complacency," he said. Mr Morgan referred to the group as part of an
mtemational family and congratulated present Ruapehu Lions Club president Doug Bennett, on the growth of the club during its 25 years. He urged Lions to think about 'Lionism' - its concept chiefly serving those in need and promoting understanding - and the benefits gained from following Lions' principles and ideals. It poses a real challenge." >, Ruapehu Lions charter members Noel Bates, Laurie Birchall, Doug Eves, Ian Strachan and Mike Kennedy were presented with long service badges, commemorating 25 years service to the club. The same members were also granted an Honoured Membership into the Lloyd Morgan Club Charitable Trust. A well attended remembrance service was held in Ohakune on Sunday, where a flower was placed on each of the 23 crosses representing those deceased members of the Ruapehu Lions Club, now on the Roll of Honour.
