Roadside goats worry council
Concern has been expressed to the Ruapehu District Council over the increasing number of uncontrolled goats loose on country roads and the danger they pre- j sent to road-users. Accidents have already occurred involving vehicles and goats on the road. Unless positive action is taken to remove the danger, it may only be a matter of time before someone is injured,
if not killed, due to their vehicle hitting or trying to avoid goats on the road, say council officers. Council intends to run a campaign which will involve the shooting of uncontrolled goats found on roads in areas where they pose a danger to road users. Owners of uncontrolled goats are therefore advised to take immediate steps to contain their animals and to keep them so contained
as failure to do so may result in the destruction of their goats. The campaign will be
an on-going one and will apply throughout the whole of the Ruapehu District.
