Scouts need woman

The investiture of five Ohakune Cubs into the scout troop took place in the Ohakune Scout Hall on Wednesday evening 1 August, watched by proud parents. Damien Scully, Peter Manson, Shanon Hayes, Jamie Morrissey and Nikora Gupwell saluted their cub pack for the last time after promising to serve God, Queeri and help others as Ohakune scouts. The occasion was marked by a concert given to entertain the families before the investiture ceremony. Skits inspired by the

recent gang show kept the audience amused until the final item in which the fathers were an essential component. Just how essential they discovered when their intrepid sons cracked raw eggs over their heads! While the dads were cleaning up supper was served, followed by an informal discussion while awaiting the arrival of Graham Hayes, the Scout Master. Warren Swain was congratulated on the excellent job he does as Cub Master, his sterling work

being much appreciated by all the parents. Warren said that as with the scouts, girls can now join the cub pack, but first he has to have a female leader to help him. He said there were a few keen girls wanting to join cubs, so all they need now is a female 17 years or older, willing to help out at the weekly cub meetings, each Wednesday from 5 till 7pm as assistant cub leader. "That's all she has to do," said Warren, "it's an easy job." Anyone interested should ring Warren at phone: 58-476 Ohakune.
