10km run organised to raise cash for schools

Ohakune running enthusiast Vince Pakinga is again organising the Ohakune Annual 10km Road Run which is to be held on Saturday 1 September, around the streets of the town. This year's funds raised will go to Ohakune and Raetihi schools, to be used for sports equipment. Winstone Pulp International have agreed to sponsor the race, which offers trophies donated by local businesses, plus certificates and spot prizes. "Although designed for fast times, there is no reason why anyone can not enter as a fun run," said Mr Pakinga. He said he organises the race as a competitive event to find champion 10 km runners. "For the serious runner, the jogger or just the plodder, come out and soak up some fresh mountain air and contribute to a worthy cause," said Mr Pakinga. a
