Mayor quits Waiouru job

Ruapehu District Mayor Garrick Workman is to resign from his position as manager of the Waiouru Army Garrison Institute retail business. He will finish at the end of September. Mayor Workman said he has found it too difficult to achieve what he wants to achieve as mayor while also running the AGI. He said being mayor has caused problems for the AGI but that the main reason is that he wants to put more into the council work. One of the things he plans to spend more time doing is visiting all the areas within the district to see for himself what the problems are and what can be done. He said he was sorry to be leaving the AGI as he felt he was making progress improving its services and profitability. "No, I am not moving to Taumarunui," said Mayor Workman in answer to that question. A replacement AGI manager is yet to be appointed.
