Expo to visit district

A visual history book of New Zealand with a glimpse of the future. That is how the New Zealand 1990 Commission describes its major project for the year, the T oy ota-Country wide Bank Expo New Zealand 1990 which runs from 8 - 1 1 August in Wanganui and 26 & 27 in Taumarunui. The travelling exhibition has been developed to bring the world of New Zealand past, present and future to New Zealanders and to ensure that provincial and rural areas have the opportu-

nity to be part of some of the larger scale activities for the year. The Toyota-Country-wide Bank Expo New Zealand 1990 is touring nationwide from April to December. A total of 24 specially designed and constructed containers form the basis of the travelling exposition. They open out to present more than 2,500 square metres of displays covering the arrival of the Maori, New Zealand's natural resources, immigration, village and town life, society, New Zealand

and the world, and New Zealand of the future. Visitors are taken on a journey through New Zealand's past and future, linked by a state of the art audio-visual presentation of New Zealand based on photographs by the late Brian Brake with a script by novelist Maurice Shadbolt. Overall design of the project has been the responsibility of Logan Brewer, designer of the Commonwealth Games Opening and Closing Ceremonies, and creative consultant Don Hutchings.

Three "clamshelters", relocatable buildings never previously seen in the South Pacific, have been specially imported to house the Toyota - Countrywide Bank Expo New Zealand 1990. In each location, local communities are invited to participate in both the pre-promotion and on -site activity during opening hours to create local festivities in conjunction with what is probably the largest roadshow ever to have travelled throughout New Zealand.
