Local radio-from Turangi
Ruapehu Radio is trying out Turangi as a broadcasting base this winter. In their format this year are the usual weather and skifield information, ski and mountain safety hints and community radio services such as the "Alf Line", which is a lost and found animals service. Weather reports run every half hour and ev-
ery 20 minutes during breakfast. Local news is broadcast at 7.20am, 7.40am, 8.20am and 8.40am. Regular features include birthday calls at 7.55am, an entertainment guide at 8.15am, 4.45pm and 5.45pm. They also run their Mars Prize Patrol, giving away Mars bars each weekend and plan to run barbecues thlrough the season on and off the
mountain. Ski bag The latest promotion for the station is 'Ski Bag' with more than $1000 in prizes to be won. Contestants will guess what the ten items in the Ski Bag are, winning Whakapapa day passes for identifying one item and a season pass for guessing all 10. Cryptic clues will be: broadcast each hour.
