Waiouru soccer

Saturday 30 June 1990 saw Waiouru Rangers host Wanganui City soccer team. Waiouru have been struggling of late to field the same team each week either due to unavailability or just plain lack of commitment by some team members. This game was a different matter which hopefully will continue for the rest of the season and on into the inter-re-gional toumament to be held later in August. Wanganui City are on top of the league and arrived fairly confident for

another win. Waiouru started strongly and dominated the first half but scored no goals. In the second half Waiouru continued to dominate and were soon on the score sheet through a fine goal from Gene Fenton. Unfortunately Waiouru changed their style of play and let Wanganui back into the game with two quick goals, the final score 21 to Wanganui. Player of the day was Lawrence O'Brian. The Oasis Hotel is thanked for their support for soccer.
