Ohakune skier John Porter takes time out from laying carpet to lay some first tracks Out West at Turoa on Friday, after the crowds had gone. Friday, last day of mid-term break, saw a near-record crowd on the field with a car count of 3800 people. Saturday was not so good for Turoa with just the Alpine Meadow running, but Whakapapa had a good day with the Cinder Track Platter, Meads Wall tow and Valley T Bar opened. The Waterfall T Bar and the Express Quad chair open for the first time in 1990 on Friday. High winds closed Whakapapa on Sunday but Turoa had about 2000 visitors despite poor visibility and strong winds.
