Advice for rural schools may be too expensive
School advisory services could be too expensive for small rural schools, says adviser Harvey Porteous of Wanganui. He said in future advisory service visits to a small school would cost as much as to a school with 20 teachers and that some principals will find it difficult to justify the expense to their boards of trustees. The advisers provide professional and curriculum support for teachers, which he feels should be provided on an equitable basis rather than the proposed cost recovery system. Additional funding for small schools for paying for support services which they now receive free won't be enough, said Mr Porteous.
