Car rally for Karioi and Army roads in August

Karioi Forest and Waiouru will see another car rally on Saturday 18 August with the Manawatu Car Club "Daybreaker Rally". The New Zealand Rally Championship and Central Region Rally Series event has as its second section a six-stage tour through the area from Taihape to Taihape. Army roads, with the comments "watch for horses" and "we pray for snow" make up a 13 kilometre special stage followed by a 63 kilometre stage through forestry roads. This stage includes the highest point reached in any North Island rally at 1100 metres. Competitors are warned that this is a tough stage, right to the point of being advised to carry survival equipment in case of breakdown!
