Army Museum wants casualty artefacts
Artifacts and photographs depicting the casualties of war are sought by the Waiouru QEII Army Memorial Museum. So little material on this aspect of war has been kept that staff are hoping the public can help. Staff at the museum are working on a new display which will feature army nurses' work and cover all aspects of treatment and rehabilitation of wounded soldiers, from becoming a casualty, evacuation from the battlefield, roles of field and base hospitals and hospital ships, rehabilitation programmes and finally the return to the field or home. Viewers will be able to walk through the display, which is to be designed to look past the statistical aspect of casualties, to get a feeling of being a stretcher bearer, ambulance driver, nurse, doctor etc. It will concentrate on World War One but show aspects of all wars.
