Lifetime ski pass at Turoa
A life pass has been introduced at Turoa this year. News of the $6600 pass was to be released at the Auckland Snow Show at the weekend with publication of a brochure detailing terms and conditions. Called the Turoa Gold Life Pass, it appears to have been prompted by Whakapapa's new investment campaign which includes the offer of life and decade passes. Whakapapa's life pass is priced at $6750 including GST while Turoa's is $150 cheaper. Both ski areas have limited the number of passes available to 100. Turoa's new general manager, Angus Grimwade, says a unique feature of Turoa's pass is that it can be transferred once during the first 10 years from the date of purchase but no later than June 30 in the year 2000. There will be no charge for the change of ownership and the pass will continue for the life of the second owner. "This enables pass holders to plan ahead for their children or grandchildren," he says. The real benefit for anyone investing in a life pass is that its cost is equivalent to ten times the current price of a season's pass on the Turoa Card deal. "It's an asset that enables skiers to beat inflation," he adds. Turoa Skifields plans to conduct a direct mail campaign offering the pass to last year's season pass holders and to former shareholders of the company.
