Overdue coverage appreciated

I write to express thanks for the extensive coverage given my recent endeavours in last week's 'Bulletin'. I was surprised, delighted and overwhelmed. My only slight regret, and this is no ungracious quibble, is that it did come as an absolute surprise and I did not have the opportunity to provide a few personal insights that pertain solely to Ohakune. My novels, 'The Worst Soccer Team Ever' and 'Break a Leg', the adaption of which has resulted in the TV production, 'All for One' were written in my former home in Clyde Street in the first months after I gave up teaching. I was still in a state of shock and absolute terror brought on by my stupidity at giving up the security of permanent employ-

ment. I have no idea how they managed to turn out as funny books. Episodes 5-8 of 'All for One' adapt 'Break a Leg' and centre on that somewhat stunning stage show 'Snow White and the Nineteen Dwarfs'. Those with medium-term memory will remember my two productiops of this at Ohakune School. The first, in 1979 was coupled with a scene from 'A Midsummernight's Dream'. The significant talents of Sara-Jane Willis, Cassandra Wright, Ronald Frew and my own son Robin, among others, were fully expltiited and were assuredly grist to my mill when I wrote the books. I am told that 'All for One' has already sold to numerous overseas markets? the U.K., Europe, Canada and Australia. A

further series is possible. Earlier this month I completed a long tour of the country for the New Zealand Book Council, speaking in intermediate and secondary schools and to adult audiences about my writing. One of my 'adults only' talks is on my experiences working in television.lt requires a few stiff gins prior to the event. For the life of me I can never remember afterwards what I've said but I'm told it's highly entertaining. Again, thanks, and with best wishes
