Transfer phone calls now need verification
If you make a transfer charge call from a public telephone from now on the operator will have to verify the call. They do this by ringing the transfer number to ask someone to okay the call, so if there is no one home you cannot transfer charge the call. Telecom says the policy is to protect the consumer, after countless cases of people fraudulently transfer charging calls to other people's phones. A Telecom spokesperson said there will be honest people who will suffer from the policy but that in the past "a huge amount of money" has been charged fraudulently.
