Ohakune Junction station looks set for removal

Ohakune Junction Railway Station building leaseholder Chris Allum told the Bulletin last week he had received an amazing 35 tenders for removal of the building but none from the local area. He said all tenders were from well out of town and that none were considering developing the building on site. "I would be more than happy to see it stay in the Junction," said Mr Allum. "It's a shame to see it go but I can't do what I planned with it and no one else seems willing or able to take it over." The Bulletin asked Mr Allum if New Zealand Railways wereTiappy that he was tendering the building for removal and he said it was not their concern and that he was entitled to remove it or sell it for removal under the terms of the lease. Railways property staff have merely stated that the station building being advertised for sale was of some concern and that they would investigate the matter.
