Waiouru has done it again. In just over seven months the Waiouru Commuriity has rallied around and raised $6893.46 to buy Apnoea (baby) monitors and sensors. "I want to say a big thank you for all the generous contributions so far," said Libby Tuthill, Community midwife. "But as the sensors for the monitors only last from as little as three days and up to three weeks, fund raising has to be an ongoing effort. From the total amount raised we've bought one hundred sensors, of which fifty have already been used, and three monitors. We'Tl buy four more permanent sensors for the Densa monitor for standby use." Parents who have had | a previous cot death and who want to use a monitor are first assessed by a paediatrician. The parents attach i the monitor to the baby which remains on all the time, not just when the baby is asleep. The monitor is set for a twenty second delay, so the baby doesn't take a breath for twenty seconds the sensor will alert the parents. "Monitors have given parents a great deal of reassurance and peace of mind," said Libby. "I want to thank the Rugby League Club, SenionNCO's Mess, St
James Thrift Shop, Mr and Mrs Gibson, Post Office staff, Playcentre,
Drifters Basketball Club, Basketball Association, Corporals
Club, Plunket, Health Watch Committee and the Pottery Club."
