Electors reminded to enrol
Reminder packs for registered electors who have not yet returned their roll revision cards, are being posted this week, 14-18 May. The reminder pack is part of a campaign run by the Electoral Roll Centre, New Zealand Post Ltd to update the electoral rolls for the 1990 Parliamentary election. Every year, thousands of New Zealanders change their jobs, addresses and names, or return to the country. To keep up with these changes, the Electoral Roll Centre undertakes regular elector roll revisions. In April, every registered
elector was sent a card showing their current enrolment details. The reminder pack includes a duplicate card. Explains King Country Registrar of Electors Barbara Reed: "The elector must check their details, make any necessary changes, answer the NZ Maori descent question, sign the card themselves, date the card and pop it in the envelope provided to the Registrar of Electors, free of charge." Everyone must answer the question on NZ Maori descent, and must return their cards. Those who do not return their cards will not have
their names placed on the new roll. "We urge electors to get their cards in quickly," Mrs Reed adds. "You don't want to wait 'till election day to find out you're not on the roll." If you are enrolling for the first time, or if you have not received an enrolment pack, an enrolment form may be obtained by free phoning the Electoral Roll' Centre 0800 800 610, Monday-Friday 9am5pm. Enrolment forms can also be obtained from New Zealand Post shops, courthouses, public libraries or local authority offices.
