Fair funds distributed
The yearly Army-sponsored fund raiser the Desert Fair is an event all people in the Waimarino region have attended at least once. Most people attend a greater number of times because of the aim behind the whole venture - to raise money to better the community in the greater Waiouru area.
The Desert Fair 1990 was no exception - this year's aim was to raise money for the community organisations that work within the preschool and primaryschool children age group. The response to this aim was unqualified in its success - a large number of people supported the cause and a profit of about $14,000 was made. The commander ATG has now finalized the distribution of the money raised. The amount of money received by each community organisation was figured to ensure effective community support could be gained. Community organisations that the Commander has disbursed money to are as follows: Weir Terrace Kindergarten, Kenningston St Kindergarten, Waiouru Day Care
Centre, ATG Sports Council (Junior Sports fund), Waiouru Playcentre, Waiouru Saddle Club, The Girl Guide and Scout Association, Waiouru Youth Group, Waiouru Kohanga Reo, Health Rooms, Cot Death Monitor Programme, Brain's Trust, Waiouru Children's Library, Waiouru Resource Centre, T uroa Tumbiers, Rangiwaea Primary Schooi, Waiouru Primary Schooi. As can be expected, those organisations who are receiving funds have been contacted and thanked for their participation in the 1990 Desert Fair venture. The Commander ATG and the Desert Fair 1990 Organising Committee also thanked the people of Waimarino for their support.
