Station owners plans on ice
It is not worth spending more money on replacing broken windows at the Ohakune Junction Railway Station, said the station' s lease owner, Chris Allum of New Sensations Supply Company, last Friday.
He said since taking on the lease of the station he has spent about $3000 on replacing smashed windows and repairing other vandalism damage and he cannot spend more when further damage is likely. He said security
is a big problem with the building because of its open site and location in a quiet part of town. Short of moving in and living in the building he says he can't protect it. Mr Allum, who oper-
ates the Hapuawhenua Viaduct bungy jumping operation, said his plans for developing the station are "on ice" due to the financial backers of his project pulling out and that he does not have the capital to continue alone. He said he still holds the lease on the building despite recent financial difficulties. Mr Allum's business was placed into receivership late last year but was
released in December, 1989. Mr Allum said he is willing to talk to anyone who has ideas for utilising the building and is to discuss proposals for the future of the station with New Zealand Railways. Railways Property Division officer Mr Ross Buxton visited the station last week but has so far been unavailable for comment to the Bulletin.
