Clubs shoot in Waimarino
The Central Districts Chartered Clubs Championships were held at the Waimarino Gun Club recently, run by the Raetihi Cosmopolitan Club. The event has now been run for eight years and its popularity now sees numbers limited. Seventy shooters in teams of five, from Taupo, Te Kuiti, Taumarunui, Ohakune, Raetihi, Wanganui, Taihape, Palmerston North and Woodville
took part. The winning team in the event, which was sponsored by MacLay Duff Whisky, was from Palmerston North with one target down out of 100. Runners up were Raetihi. The 20 target Security & General Trophy was won by Dennis Colson from Te Kuiti, with Barry Clunnie from Taupo second. The 15 target tiophy, sponsored by DB, was won by James Garland from Raetihi, Doug Meehan of Taumarunui
second. Another of the event sponsors was Winchester New Zealand. On the second day of the weekend the local club held its normal club shojot. Results were: 5 pair double fast mallard A grade, Jim Dobson; B grade Trevor Taylor; C grade James Garland. 50 target trophy match A grade, 1st Jim Dobson (50); 2nd Trevor Fredericksen (49); 3rd Rocko Petre (Turangi) (47). B grade 2x50 shoot
Les Thurston; 2nd John Dempsey; 3rd Errol Sue; 4th Snow Brannigan. C grade 46 shoot-off lst, Michael Wills; 2nd Lance Ruki; 3 rd Wayne Lloyd; 4th James Garland. Waimarino Cup 15 target team shoot (Taihape, Waimarino, Taumarunui and Te Kuiti competiting) won by Waimarino. Last shoot: ten pair double rise: A grade, Doug Mehan; B grade Chris Leister; C grade Wayne Lloyd and Peter Zohs.
