The following cases were heard at the Ohakune District Court on Thursday 23 November, JudgeToomey presided. No licence Dexuiis John Hawira, unemployed of Raetihi, pleaded guilty to a charge of driving a motor vehicle on 13 August while never having held a driving licence of any kind. He was remanded at large to appear in the Ohakune District Court on 21 December in order for arrangements to be made for defendant to obtain a drivers licence before his next appearance. Driving charge John Robert Craig Paine, 47, merchant banker of Auckland, pleaded guilty to a charge of driving with excess blood alcohol in Ohakune on 17 September. He was convicted and fined $1000, court costs $65 and ordered to pay medical expenses of $105 and DSIR analyst fees of $54. He was disqualified from driving for 6 months. Counsel: D.G. Harvey. Remanded Piki Lois Pui, 26, upemployed beneficiary of Raetihi, was remanded on bail without plea to appear in the Ohakune District Court on 21 December so that pleas can be taken on a number of charges including breaking and entering the Taihape Medical Centre on 23 July, the Raetihi borough Council building on 7 August, Hautapu Motors on 8 August and the Ritz Tearooms in Seddon Street on or about 14 August. Remanded Steven Charles Pui, 19, unemployed of Raetihi, was remanded on bail without plea to appear again on 21 December so that pleas can be entered on several charges including: breaking and entering a dwelling house on

SH49 sometxme between 30 June and 20 August with intent to commit a crime therein, to burglary of the Raetihi Borough Council building on 7 August, to burglary of the Ritz Tearooms on or about 14 August, to stealing a coin-operated telephone unit valued at $678 belonging to Telecom on 31 July and to stealing another coin-operated Telecom telephone unit valued at $678 on 13 August. Counsel: D.G. Harvey. Driving charge Dean Andrew Robb, 21, student of Palmerston north, pleaded not guilty to a charge of reckless driving a motor vehicle in Rimu Street, Ohakune on 14 October. He was remanded to appear again in the Ohakune District Court on 15 March next year for a defendants hearing. Counsel: D.G. Harvey. Assault Jarnel Singh of Wanganui, pleaded guilty to a charge of assault on a constable on 16 October. Defendant's counsel (Mr D.G. Harvey) explained that his client was not fluent in the English language and this had been a contributing factor towards the charge being laid. Defendant had attended a party in Soldier's Road in Ohakune on the date in question and had consumed alcohol to which he was not used. This had led to an incident to which the police were called. When a police constable took defendant's car keys and advised him to sleep off the effects of alcohol, difficulty with the language had led to a misunderstanding of the constable's actions. Defendant was convicted and fined $200 and ordered to court costs of $65. Intentioiijal damage Trevor John Soler, 32. farmer df Pipiriki, was remanded at large to appear J in the Ohakune Diitrict Court on 21 December to face

a charge of causing intentional damage to a motor vehicle, the property of Brian Russell Soler. Counsel: P. Brown. No licence Rii Terio Haitana, 17, of Raetihi, pleaded guilty to a charge of driving a motor vehicle in Seddon Street, Raetihi, on 14 August while not holding a drivers licence of any kind. He was remanded at large to appear in the Ohakune District Court in 21 December to give him an opportunity of obtaining a drivers licence before his next appearance. Driving charge Cyril Sidney Mott, 62, contractor bushman of Ohakune, pleaded not guilty to one charge of driving with excess blood alcohol in Ohakune on 6 July and to a charge of careless use of a motor vehicle in Shannon Street, Ohakune, on the same occasion. He was remanded at large to appear in the Ohakune District Court on 15 March next year for a defendants hearing. Counsel: P. Brown. Remanded Rebecca Paewa Taiaroa, 19, DPB beneficiary of Raetihi, was remanded without plea to appear on several charges for offences committed with others. These include the joint charges of breaking and entering the Ritz Tearooms in Raetihi on or about 14 August, breaking and entering the Raetihi Borough Council building on 7 August, breaking and entering a dwelling house on Sh49 between 30 June and 20 August, stealing a coinoperated phone unit valued at $678 the property of Telecom on 31 July and another charge of stealing a similar unit on 13 August. Defendant is to appear in the Ohakune District Court on 21 December for pleas on all charges to be entered. Counsel: D.G. Harvey.

Frompagel2 Driving charge Paul John Simpson, 32, self employed carpenter of Wanganui, pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified in Queen Street, Raetihi, on 19 November. He was convicted and fined $400, court costs $65 and disqualified for a further 6 months from the date of his expiry of current disqualification on 27 July next year - that is until 27 January 1991. Counsel: P. Brown. Cannabis Philip Brian Schofield, 19, unemployed of Auckland, was further remanded at large to appear in the Ohakune District Court on 21 December to answer a charge of possession of cannabis plant. No licence Jerry Maxwell Moses Tamatea, 16, unemployed of Ohakune, pleaded guilty to a charge of driving a motor vehicle on the Raetihi Road on 18 November without ever having had a drivers licence of any kind. He was convicted and remanded until 21 December and ordered to make arrangements to obtain a licence before his next appearance. Receiving Julie Pamela Olive Tamatea, 21, solo parent of Ohakune, pleaded guilty to charge of receiving a quantity of items valued at $150 from Ricky John

McLeod knowing them to have been stolen or dishonestly obtained. Court heard how this

was not the usual case of receiving for personal profit but was a favour to a former

boyfriend. She was convicted and fined $100, court costs $65. Counsel: D.G. Harvey.
