A year in Waiouru's life
Soldiers of the Army Training Group and the public will be able to view the recent work of ATG Sub Lieutenant Julie
Johnson RNZN VR.
Sub Lt Johnson has recently completed an impressive collection of photos on the very - recent History of ATG. The album provides a permanent record of events as they occurred in Waiouru over a period of one year. The idea for the 'History of ATG' came from former Commander ATG then Colonel Brett Bestic RNZIR (now Brigadier) to record events as they happened from June 1988 - June 1989. Sub Lt Johnson was then asked to compile the unique album, a task which saw her capture memorable moments on film during the ATG. calendar year. Last week the reporter for the Empty Page viewed the photo album with Sub Lt Johnson. The album is bound in black and mounted on a highly polished pine board. The cover of the album is complimented by the fine artwork of the ATG crest by 4 ATG Wksp sign writer Lcpl M Ruki. Besides doing the artwork, Lcpl Ruki also spent long hours handwriting each individual card which the viewer will see throughout the album.
The photos themselves highlight the activities of ATG during the year and include a collection of both colour and black and white photographs. Beside recording the events of ATG, on each page of the album there is also a brief statement on an important event that happened in New Zealand and also overseas. So each page depicts
an ATG theme, a New Zealand theme and an overseas theme. The albums are now presently placed for viewing in the Officers mess, the Warrant Officers and Sergeants mess, soon Headquarters Company and also the Queen Elizabeth II Museum. A decision on the fifth album is yet to be made as to where it is to be placed.
