Waiouru schools

The 'Empty Page' reporter visited Waiouru Primary School and the Kindergartens last week to find out what they are doing and, more importantly what activities children maybe doing over the next month. Waiouru Primary School Like all schools around the country the school's Board of Trustees are busy preparing the school charter. They (the Trustees) must work within the charter guidelines set down by the Minister of Education. The frame work of the guidelines are: General description of the

school; Guiding principles; Mission statement; Specific goals and objectives of the school; School procedures; Codes of conduct; Charter agreement. Senior Department Classes from the senior department visited the ATG confidence course and assault courses recently. They participated in the activities on the confidence course under the supervision of the Army's Physical Training Instructors who ensured that the children managed to go over the obstacles safely. The following day the Physical Training

instructors again assisted the children over the assault course. The highlight of the after - noon's activities was the 50 metre mud crawl back to the finish line of the course, a section which was thoroughly enjoyed by all! Junior Department A class from the junior department will visit the Waiouru marae on Friday 24 November. The purpose of the visit will be to learn Maori protocol on the marae. Children from both departments are to take Turnpage 6

From page 5 part in a Commonwealth Games study and will cover all aspects of the games. Keningston and Weir Terrace Kindergartens Both Kindergartens are underway preparing the 'Before Five' school charters and have sent

newsletters out to parents encouraging them to assist with the writing up of the charter. Weir Terrace Kindergarten has concentrated this month on fire safety with regards to barbeque cooking etc., and protection from the sun utilising the 'opver up' programme.

Keningston Kindergarten theme for this month is 'Growing' and children there are learning about growing up. They are also keeping /it through their dancing programme, and keeping their hands busy with painting and

sewing. Waiouru Playcentre's main activity for the next month is the Christmas theme, and are currently preparing decorations for the Waiouru Christmas Carnival.
