RESIDENTS EVACUATED AS VAN WITH CNG TANK BLAZES IN OHAKUNE

In the early hours of Sunday morning residents in the vicinity of the entrance to Manuka Street, Ohakune were evacuated after a vehicle containing a CNG tank caught fire. The fire had started under the dash board of the vehicle and quickly spread to gut the van. None of the four occupants of the vehicle were injured in the incident and the CNG tank did not explode despite the van being completely gutted and the tank blackened. Appliances from the Ohakune Volunteer Firebrigade attended the blaze, the cause of which is thought to be electrical.
