NEW METAL ROAD GRADING METHOD

Council works staff are using a new metal road grading practice which sees metal pushed off the edge of the roadway in some cases. Waimarino District Councillors heard at their last meeting that some rural residents were concerned that road grading was not being done properly but the district engineer told the council it was a new technique used to stop the encroachment of vegetation onto metal roads. He said winter grading forms a higher crown to aid water run-off and summer grading flattens the crown and pushes metal to the edge.
