SEARCHERS LOST & FOUND IN MANGAPURUA

Operation Mangapurua, the Labour Weekend search and rescue exercise based at the Ruatiti Domain, was a success despite one team of searchers becoming "geographically embarrassed", according to organizers. A team of four found themselves lost late on Sunday in "atrocious weather" but were aided by the control group in finding their way out. The exercise was successful because it highlighted the faults and problems that need to be ironed out before a real search and rescue operation, according to Wanganui police Sergeant Darryl Nix.
