PIPIRIKI STORE PLANS REVIVED

Pipiriki may have the beginnings of a shop by Christmas, following a decision by the Pipiriki Incorporation to build a village store with tea rooms and information service plus a manager's accommodation. Materials for the project are on hand, having been bought about four years ago when the project was instigated. The Incorporation has put aside the $50,000 extra needed and the group's chairman, Bill Wright from Waikanae, is to build the premises. Mr Wright will start the project after finishing the Wharekai building on the Pipiriki Marae, said incorporation member Dennis McDonnell. He said he is still to meet with a Mobil representative to discuss installing a petrol pump at the shop. Mr McDonnell said he is often approached by people using the river road for petrol, despite there being signs at either end warning motorists that none is available.
