Waiouru scouts clean up highway
Waiouru Scouts have had a busy week with presentations and roadside cleanups.
Last Thursday after the visual club meeting a special presentation ceremony was held The Waimarino Dis-
trict Commander for Scouts presented local leaders with certificates. Mr Chris Ewen was presented with his
group leader's warrant. Mrs Anne Rzepecky was presented with both her assistant cub leader's warrant and Chief Scout Commendation, and Mr Gary Rzepecky with his assistant scout leader's
warrant. On Saturday they were involved in the National Community Awareness Week which is part of the Keep New Zealand Beautiful promotion being undertaken by communities and service organisations throughout the country. The Scouts were involved by participating in a roadside clean-up along State Highway One. Armed with rubbish bags and cars with trailors they cleaned up the sides of the road south of Waiouru to the railway line and north to the rubbish dump. Another on-going project for the scouts is raising money to send five Waiouru scouts to the New Zealand Scout Jamboree to be held at Mystery Creek near Hamilton in the new year. This means lots of selling scout mints, tree planting and helping to work on a block of pinus contorta, to raise the necessary
funds. Times for meetings of the various sections of the scout movement are as follows: Keas (6-8 years), Mondays 4. 30-5. 30pm;
Cubs (8-10 years), Thursdays 5.30-7pm; Scouts (10-15 years), Mondays 6.30-8.30pm. The scout movement is always looking for
new leaders in all sections, both male and female. If you can give them your support phone Mr Ewens, 56127.
